Benefit Systems joins forces with SmartLunch

Benefit Systems S.A., which offers programmes supporting employee well-being, will acquire 18.53% of shares in SmartLunch S.A., which organises mass catering in medium and large-sized enterprises. The transaction included a non-financial contribution in the form of Lunching.pl, which, as part of the merger, will provide the dynamically developing SmartLunch with its know-how and resources. The estimated value of the transaction is nearly PLN 60 million.

– Healthy nutrition of employees and subsidising meals is a promising segment of the non-financial benefits market. In 2022, we significantly increased our competences in this area by purchasing shares in Lunching.pl. We are glad that with the transaction we are strengthening the capabilities of SmartLunch, and at the same time we are joining forces with a dynamically developing entity whose future goals in the area of employee benefits connected with nutrition are consistent with ours – says Emilia Rogalewicz, Management Board Member at Benefit Systems S.A., and adds: – We are convinced that SmartLunch is a company with potential, the offer of which will be an important element of the non-financial benefits package of employers throughout the country, and with time also those in other markets.

SmartLunch has been operating on the Polish market for a decade, offering employers comprehensive solutions in the field of employee meals, starting from managing company canteens to optimising nutritional processes. The company currently serves nearly 600 enterprises, which means that over 120,000 employees use SmartLunch solutions. According to preliminary financial data, in 2023 the company achieved PLN 136.4 million in revenues.

– When I founded SmartLunch in 2014, Benefit Systems was already a leader in the benefits market, offering the MultiSport card and promoting activity among employees. Within a decade, we have achieved a leading position in the field of organising meals for employees with employer funding, becoming a promoter of the culture of eating at work. The thing we have in common is our concern for the well-being of employees, therefore I am even more glad that Benefit Systems has become our investor. I am convinced that joining forces will bring value to both parties. Thanks to this cooperation, Benefit Systems will strengthen its position in the rapidly growing segment of nutritional benefits, and SmartLunch, by taking over Lunching.pl, will strengthen its position on the market and gain even greater development opportunities in Poland, and in the future also beyond it – says Mateusz Tałpasz, co-founder and CEO of SmartLunch.

The signed agreement provides for the possibility of priority purchase of the remaining shares in SmartLunch in the following years.

– The strategy implemented by Benefit Systems assumes that our offer will comprehensively support the well-being of employees in such fundamental areas as physical and mental condition as well as healthy eating. We are intensively developing the MultiLife Programme and expanding the capabilities of the MyBenefit platform. We also constantly ensure the high level of the MultiSport offer. The shares in SmartLunch and a guarantee of priority to purchase the remaining shares in the future strengthen our position in the segment of nutritional benefits for employees – explains Emilia Rogalewicz.

From gyms to wellness centres: how fitness clubs in Kraków have changed over the years.
In the past, the gym was primarily associated with barbells and weights. The offering was simple, and the space was dedicated primarily to strength training. Today, a fitness club is much more than that: you can practise Reformer Pilates, train for HYROX competitions, access physiotherapy services, use the sauna, or unwind after work in the recovery zone. Increasingly, you don’t have to be an avid athlete to feel at ease in such a place.

Will new pay transparency regulations consign classic spreadsheets to the dustbin of history? HR needs a new data architecture.
Implementing the pay transparency directive is not merely a legal and organisational challenge for HR teams. It is also a test of companies’ technological maturity. Employers will evaluate positions, assign employees to appropriate pay levels, analyse the pay gap, and prepare salary information taking all variables into account. In practice, this may entail working with large volumes of sensitive data, where relying solely on spreadsheets for processing can become less efficient and more prone to errors.
