Polish seniors constitute a significant part of society. Currently, the number of people aged 60+ already exceeds nine million. Unfortunately, more and more seniors in Poland struggle with health problems resulting from the lack of regular physical activity, which negatively affects their everyday comfort of life. In response to these challenges, the MultiSport Foundation has prepared the “Senior in Good Shape” programme, which helps older people maintain fitness and wellbeing. Seniors can enjoy a wide range of activities that will help them take care of their physical and mental condition.
As indicated in the “ABC Senior” report prepared by the Zaczyn Foundation, the number of seniors in Poland is greater than the number of inhabitants in one third of European countries. In the face of the constant expansion of this social group, the need to support health and physical activity in old age is extremely important today. Noticing these challenges, the MultiSport Foundation is launching a new project called “Senior in Good Shape.”
Seniors ready for action
Seniors in Poland are very open to taking care of their health and developing new skills, which is confirmed by the “ABC Senior” online school’s research conducted in cooperation with the National Institute of Senior Economy. The report shows that as many as 53.2% of older people perceive physical activity as the foundation of a healthy life, and 52.8% emphasise the importance of health prevention.
– Seniors in Poland are ready to act for their health. Therefore, it is our duty to create space for them to participate in programmes that will support their activity and allow them to enjoy good fitness for a longer time – emphasises Tomasz Półgrabski, president of the MultiSport Foundation – Properly planned physical activity programmes can significantly affect their overall wellbeing. Seniors are increasingly willing to take advantage of opportunities that not only increase their fitness but also support their independence. Access to such initiatives becomes crucial to meet the growing demand for an active lifestyle in this age group.
The “Senior in Good Shape” programme is an initiative that was created to support seniors in taking care of their physical and mental health. The aim of the project is to promote physical activity tailored to the needs of older people. The MultiSport Foundation, the initiator of the project, ensures that every senior has access to activities that improve the quality of their life, develop their physical condition, and allow for social integration.
Seniors participating in the project can also take part in lectures and classes conducted by experts in various fields, such as physiology, dietetics and psychology. The programme emphasises health prevention, which is extremely important in this age group, especially in the context of maintaining mobility and independence.
The classes under the “Senior in Good Shape” project include general development gymnastics, exercises strengthening the spine, pelvic floor muscles and stretching. Additionally, participants will be able to take part in relaxation classes that support regeneration and help reduce stress. All activities will be conducted by qualified instructors.
In addition to physical activities, seniors will also have access to a series of valuable weekly lectures and webinars. The project includes 15 meetings, during which experts will discuss topics important for older people, selected on the basis of a survey conducted among participants. After each of them, there will be a question-and-answer session with experts.
– Our goal is not only to promote physical activity, but also to educate and support seniors in other aspects of life. We want to make access to substantive content as easy as possible, which will allow older people to deepen their knowledge about a healthy lifestyle – emphasises Tomasz Półgrabski, president of the MultiSport Foundation.
How to join the course?
All trainings and lectures will be published on the ABCsenior.com platform. New training sessions will be added on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and lectures on Thursdays. The course will start on 10 October and will last until mid-February. Access to the project is completely free.
The “Senior in Good Shape” project, co-financed by the Ministry of Sports and Tourism, is one of many initiatives of the MultiSport Foundation which aim to promote a healthy lifestyle and physical activity at every stage of life. By implementing various sports programmes, the foundation supports Poles in building better habits and striving to improve the quality of life.
