A full day of sports for free: National Sports Day on the PGE Narodowy grounds.
On Sunday, 20 September, from 11:00 to 18:00, a family sports picnic will be held on the PGE Narodowy grounds as part of National Sports Day. Among the numerous attractions prepared for the day, there will also be one of the largest sports zones, organised by the MultiSport Foundation and MultiSport. Visitors can look forward to a 3x3 basketball court, challenges against basketball coach Kacper “Kacpa” Lachowicz, a fitness zone with various equipment, traditional playground games, body composition analysis, and contests with prizes. Participation in all activities is free and does not require registration.
For many children, a few hours of free exercise on Sunday are more than they get during the entire week outside of school. The Global Matrix 4.0 report, prepared by the Active Healthy Kids Global Alliance, indicates that only 16.8% of Polish children and adolescents meet the World Health Organisation’s recommendation of 60 minutes of daily physical activity.
This is evident in many studies. The 2025 “PE with AWF: Active Today for Future Health” report prepared by the University of Physical Education (AWF) in Warsaw at the request of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education reveals that 89% of students cannot jump rope correctly, and 86% of children in grades 1–3 are unable to throw and catch a ball after it bounces off a wall. The same report shows the reasons for these results: 60% of children do not participate in any extracurricular activities, and their physical activity is limited mainly to physical education classes.
What awaits visitors in the zone?
The zone will be open all day, and you can use it at any time, regardless of age or skill level. Sessions on the 3x3ZONE court will be led by Kacper “Kacpa” Lachowicz – a basketball coach, MultiSport Foundation expert, and one of Poland’s most recognisable basketball ambassadors, who has spent over a decade travelling across the country to conduct workshops at schools and sports camps.
The zone will feature:
- 3x3ZONE court, as well as short challenges and basketball contests,
- challenges against “Kacpa” and a minibasket for the youngest ones,
- basketball wheel of fortune,
- fitness zone with various equipment: exercise bikes, rowing machines, TBC,
- yard games and physical activities for the whole family,
- MultiSport photo booth and face painting for the youngest ones,
- chill-out zone with deckchairs.
Times for selected activities:
- 12:00 open training,
- 13:00 competitions with prizes,
- 15:00 open training,
- 16:00 competitions with prizes.
Adults can also try something new.
The zone is designed with entire families in mind, and parents visiting the PGE Narodowy grounds with their children will also find something for themselves: training equipment and body composition analysis, complete with a specialist’s interpretation of the results. The MultiSport Index 2025 survey shows that 30% of adult Poles express a desire to try a new form of physical activity, while 16% actually do so. The Sunday picnic is a great opportunity to take the first step, try out a few activities in one place, and see which one suits you best.
The picnic is taking place as part of the fourteenth edition of National Sports Day, organised by the Zwalcz Nudę Foundation. Over 140 free sports events have been planned across the country for that day, with the Warsaw picnic serving as the grand finale. The event is held under the honorary patronage of the Mayor of Warsaw and the Ministry of Sport and Tourism.
